When you’re caring for a senior parent that is aging at home, it’s easy to get into a routine. You may not notice the signs that your senior parent needs more help than you can provide.
If you have a job, small kids, and other responsibilities, you may not be able to take care of your senior parent all the time. And that’s okay. That’s why there is in-home care. With in-home care, you never have to worry about your senior parent. They will have someone with them around the clock, making sure they are healthy, safe, and happy.
Are you seeing signs that your senior loved one could benefit from in-home care? If you are noticing any of these signs, it’s time to talk to your senior parent about having in-home care:
Problems Sleeping Or Nighttime Anxiety
If your senior loved one has a lot of trouble sleeping, or if they have severe anxiety at night to the point where they have panic attacks or can’t sleep, it’s probably time to talk about in-home care. It’s not unusual for seniors to feel anxious at night, but if their anxiety is getting so bad they’re afraid to go to sleep, they could benefit from having someone with them overnight.
When they have in-home care, their care provider will be up and awake all night. So your senior parent can relax knowing someone is there to look out for them.
Trouble Getting Out of Bed And Getting Going In The Morning
If your senior parent is having a hard time getting out of bed in the morning, getting dressed and cleaned up, and making breakfast, then in-home care would help them, and you. It’s not always possible for a family caregiver to get up early and go to their parent’s home to get them out of bed, dressed, and ready for the day.
When seniors have in-home care, there will be someone there throughout the night who can also get them out of bed and dressed each day. If you have a job, you won’t have to try and juggle getting to your senior parent’s house to get them up, and then going to work all day.
Trouble Taking Care Of A Pet
If your senior loved one has pets who are also seniors, those seniors pets can require a lot of care. Senior dogs and cats often require special diets and other accommodations. They also need to see the vet more frequently than younger pets. Likewise, senior dogs need to go outside more often, because they often need to do their business more frequently due to their age.
Seniors can find it difficult to care for their senior pets, even though they love them. When your senior parent has in-home care, a care provider can also take care of the senior pets and ensure they are safe and happy.
